With new digital cameras I have found a need for low power controlling lights, for example at 800 ASA T2 1/50 second shutter the exposure would be just 60 lux (6 ftcds). An extreme could be 3200 ASA T1.4 1/50 sec would require an exposure of just 8 lux so if lighting at a lighting contrast of 4:1 would mean just 6 lux and 2 lux fill.

 

Distance (-20cm to 20cm) from centre of illumination by Lux (0-200) the lamp 1 metre from a flat surface. I have made the light scale logarithmic as light in photography is.

In this graph you can see the effect of using the snoot, egg crate, diffusion and plain LED light on its own.

With the diffusion, snoot and egg crate we have a soft light with the most narrow angle of illumination, removing the egg crate, snoot widens the angle and increases the amount of illumination.

Removing the diffusion changes the quality and increases the quantity of light
